Manuscript Preparation

There are multiple steps to the final production of a book or article, and many of these are complicated, time-consuming, and opaque. We offer expert support at every phase of this process, including not only technical expertise but broad experience with a range of publishers, their processes, and multiple styles and formats.

Services we provide include

Copy editing:
We offer meticulous copy editing to capture errors of grammar, spelling and punctuation, and to format text, notes, and references to conform to a publisher’s required style guide.

Beyond copy editing, we pull and format bibliographic references from notes to a reference list according to a publisher’s specifications.

We create accurate and comprehensive indexes, whether a more limited name-place index or an in-depth subject index; the latter will include key concepts and themes that position your work’s claims and contributions within your field.

Image permissions:
Procuring images and permission to reproduce them can significantly delay a publication. We have broad expertise in obtaining publication rights and high-quality images from many types of institutions and in multiple languages. Where possible, we will find images available for free in the public domain.

Once copy edited and typeset proofs of a manuscript are available from the press, we check every single element for typographical mistakes and consistent layout—from the table of contents to the index, the front cover to the back matter, and everything in between.

Project management:
We are experienced at keeping multi-author volumes on track to publication, including communicating with authors about scheduling and requirements, coordinating the timely receipt of completed essays, and ensuring consistency of style and formatting across contributions.
